Blues split with Moses Lake
Tyler Shultz went the distance on the mound and batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored as the Blues managed a split with Moses Lake to open the season.
Vinny Carrillo also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the second game as Yakima won 8-5 on Sunday at Parker Field. They dropped the opener 8-5 as Seth Kline, Greg Hata and Tyler Torres all had multiple hits.

Blues split two in tournament
SPOKANE — Greg Hata's infield RBI single capped a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Yakima Blues defeated the Central Valley Bears 8-7, earning them a split of their two games Thursday in the Bear Bash Junior Legion Tournament.
Yakima (5-6) lost its opener 15-7 to the Kennewick Dusters, despite a grand slam by Junior Chavez.
Chavez also had two hits against Central Valley, along with another RBI. Michael Calderon, Tyler Schultz and Seth Kline had two hits each, with Schultz collecting two RBI, and Tyler Torres stole four bases.
Yakima continues tournament play today with a game against North Central.

Carrillo and Summers lead Blues to Victory over North Thurston

SELAH — The Yakima Blues improved to 2-0 in the Brent Edwards Tournament with a 7-4 victory over North Thurston on Friday at Carlon Park.

Matt Summers pitched five innings allowing one earned run, and Vinnie Carrillo drove in three runs for the Blues (12-12), who play Enumclaw today at 11 a.m.

Blues, Peppers to meet in title game

SELAH — It will be an all-local championship final today in the Brent Edwards Tournament when the Yakima Blues and Yakima Valley Peppers meet at 5:30 p.m.

The Blues defeated Enumclaw 15-5 in 10 innings on Saturday as Tyler Shultz pitched five innings of relief with seven strikeouts. Vinnie Carrillo was 4-for-6, and Will Scott produced three hits and three runs.

Late Friday, the Peppers clinched their title berth with a 4-3 win against Kirkland in 10 innings. Jake Stiles struck out 11 in eight innings, and Ben Luce, Matt Herbert and Pablo Chavez had two hits each. They defeated the Scarlets 10-0 on Saturday with Stephen Schmidt allowing only one hit in five innings. Tyler Porter knocked in three runs for Yakima Valley and Zach Fleming added two.

The West Valley Baseball Club beat North Thurston 6-3 on Saturday and will play for third place today at 3 p.m. WV's Jon Thomson threw a three-hitter with five strikeouts, and Dustin Daniels, Tucker Leppa and Casey Croshaw had two hits each.

The Scarlets will play Enumclaw at 9 a.m. today in the seventh-eighth game.

Blues capture Brent Edwards title

SELAH — Matt Summers threw a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks as the Yakima Blues beat the Yakima Valley Peppers 7-2 in the title game of the Brent Edwards Tournament on Sunday.

Junior Chavez hit a two-run double for the Blues (14-12), and Jacob Marshall and Stephen Palachuck had two hits apiece.

In the third-place game, Chehalis defeated the West Valley Baseball Club 6-0.

 

 

Yakima Blues earn road sweep

WALLA WALLA — Tyler Doornink and Tyler Shultz pitched complete game and combined for nine strikeouts as the Yakima Blues swept Walla Walla 6-1, 3-2 in Junior Legion league play Tuesday.

Will Scott and Robbie Alter had two hits each in the opener for Yakima (19-16), which hosts Pasco today at 5 p.m. Jacob Marshall had two hits in the second game

Kennewick Sweeps Blues

The Yakima Blues dropped a league doubleheader to the Kennewick Junior Bandits, 6-1 and 9-8 in eight innings.

In the second game, Vinnie Carrillo was 3 for 5 with a double, two runs and three RBI and Robbie Alter went 3 for 4 with two RBI for the Blues (4-5).

Teammate Junior Chavez drove in tow runs and stole two bases.

Blues Fall at Bear Bash

Tyler Doornick pitched a complete game, striking out six, but the Yakima Blues fell 503 to North Central (Spokane) for a 1-2 record in the Bear Bash Tournament.

Tyler Shultz and Junior Chavez led the Yakima offense with two hits each, and teammate Jesse St. Clair had a run and an RBI.

Blues Blank Freeman 15-0

Tyler Shultz threw a complete game and went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, Greg Hata drove in three runs, and Will Scott and Jacob Marshall had two hits apiece for the Blues (6-7).

Blues Knocked Out in Semis

North Central handed the Yakima Blues an 8-4 loss, knocking them out of the Bear Bash Tournament in the semifinals.

Tyler Shultz had two hits for the Blues (2-3 at the tournament, 6-8 overall), and teammate Stephen Palachuk had two RBI. Will Scott added a double in the loss.

Blues Blast Cougars

Vinnie Carrillo hit a three-run home run as the Yakima Blues defeated the Whitman County Cougars 9-1.

Michael Calderon and Junior Chavez both added two RBI along with multiple hits for Yakima (7-8 overall). Teammate Jessie St. Clair also had a pair of hits an dtwo runs schored to help Tyler Doornink to his first victory of the season on the mound.

Blues Split with Cle Elum

The Yakima Blues and Cle Elum split a non-league doubleheader at Parker Field. Tyler Doornink pitched a complete-game shutout in the Blues’ 3-0 victory, and Cle Elum won the nightcap 7-5.

Blues Top West Valley Baseball Club

Tyler Doornink threw a complet game and earned his thir straight win as the Yakima Blues clipped the West Valley Baseball Club 2-1 in their opening game in the Brent Edwards Tournament at Carlon Park in Selah.
Doornink struck out four and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh inning. Michael Calderon scored the game winning run in the top of the seventh.

Matt Summers pitched a complete game and Jacob Marshall had trhee hits as the Yakima Blues defeated Hamer Electric of Longview 6-2 in the Sun City Tournament at Parker Field.

Summers struck out five and Vinnie Carrillo scored 2 runs for the host Blues (16-13).

Blues Lose Two in Tournament

The Yakima Blues lost to the West Valley Baseball Club 12-6, in the first of their two games on Friday.

The Blues also lost to Tumwater 10-9, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. They left the bases loaded.

Blues Lose in Sun City Tournament

The Yakima Blues fell 7-5 to Sedro-Woolley in the Sun City Tournament at Parker Field. Robbie Alter was 3-for-3 with a double, and Tyler Shultz pitched six innings.

The Blues will play for 5th and 6th against Tumwater.

Blues Take 5th at Sun City
The host Yakima Blues took fifth place at the Sun City Tournament, beating Tumwater 9-4. Matt Summers, the tournament’s Most Valuable Pitcher, got his second win of the event for the Blues. Yakima Blues’ Robbie Alter and Greg Hata were named to the All-Tournament team.

Yakima Blues Earn Road Sweep

Tyler Doornink and Tyler Shultz pitched complete games and combined for nine strikeouts, as the Yakima Blues swept Walla Walla 601 and 3-2 in Junior Legion league play.

Peppers Sweep Blues

Justin Windsor pitched a complete second game, giving up two runs on four hits with five strikeouts, as the Yakima Valley Peppers swept a league doubleheader against the Yakima Blues 12-4 and 12-2.

Strong Pitching Helps Blues Sweep Peppers

Stephen Boynton and Tyler Schultz both pitched complete games for the Yakima Blues as they swept their doubleheader against the Yakima Valley Peppers 11-1 and 12-1 at Parker Field.
In the first game, Boynton gave up one run on four hits while striking out seven. Schultz gave up one run on five hits while striking out seven in the second game for Yakima, which finished the season 22-23.
Greg Hata went 4-for-6 with four runs schored on the day for the Blues, and Vinnie Carrillo went 5-for-5 with four runs scored. Teammate Jacob Marshall went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBI in both contests, and Will Scott went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four stolen bases, giving him a total of 32 for the year.
